Community Helpers Picture Cards
Community Helpers Picture Cards
Help children learn about the people whose work keeps our communities strong, safe, healthy and connected.
This set of 60 Community Helpers Picture Cards introduces children to a wide variety of occupations and community roles through engaging, realistic-style illustrations. The images show people at work in meaningful settings, helping children understand not only what different workers look like, but also what they do and how their work contributes to the community.
Created with northern and rural communities in mind, the collection includes familiar occupations as well as jobs that are especially relevant in smaller, remote and northern communities. Children will see a diverse range of people working in schools, health care, transportation, trades, emergency services, local businesses, industry, the outdoors and more.
Each 5 × 7 inch horizontal card features a full-colour image with no printed word or job title, making the cards especially versatile for language learning. Add your own vocabulary, use them for oral language activities, or adapt them for Indigenous, heritage, second-language or multilingual programs.
This set is ideal for:
Vocabulary and language development
Community helpers and occupations units
Oral language and conversation
“Who am I?” and guessing games
Matching and classification activities
Career awareness
Social studies and community learning
Writing prompts and storytelling
Indigenous language revitalization programs
ESL/EAL and multilingual classrooms
Designed for Language Programs
Because the cards contain no English text, they can be used in virtually any language. If you provide the translations, I can also customize the set with your language vocabulary.
Need something a little different? Images can also be added, removed or changed to better reflect the occupations, services and people that are important in your own community.
A beautiful and practical resource for helping children recognize, appreciate and talk about the many people who contribute to their community.
